Game Com 777 as 2nd prize?

November 6th, 2008 by Mark Carras

So activity here had been a little slow until I kicked off this latest contest. The Asus Eee PC was announced as the grand prize, but is that it? Nope! Not even close. Now we will announce the second place prize. I heard about this one while listening to the Daily Giz Wiz. Funny enough it was episode 666 and the product is called 777. Or the longer name of Game Com 777.

Game Com 777

Anyways it is the latest headset from Plantronics. It works great for Skype, being a guest on a podcast, and is sold a a game headset. It also of course works well for music and a few other things, too. I use a much older model for my own podcasts and it still works great. This however is the latest and greatest version. In fact I could not find it on Amazon yet. I had to send the GizWiz himself a Twitter message to find out that NewEgg had them available. Dick, being the awesome guy, gave me the info so I could buy one and give it to one of you. So enjoy, and a humble thanks to Dick.

As this is the 2nd place prize, it goes to the 2nd highest ranking user that is not directly connected to the site. So this means that programmer DarkNemesis618, my wife VaporRub, and myself are automatically disqualified from winning. We are giving you until December 1st at Midnight East Coast time. Whoever is the top user (not connected to the site) gets the prize.

Winner of the Game Com 777 will be announced December 1st. Once we receive said winner’s address the Game Com 777 will be sent out to them. If you need to see more stats, this is the specific version the winner will be sent. We are very sorry, but only winners from the United States are eligible due to legal reasons. Users worldwide are welcome to be a part of the site, but this contest has to be for U.S. residents only. Of course any user suspected of cheating, gaming the system, or being involved in activity that could harm the site or it’s users may be banned. Being banned from this site will disqualify you from this and any contest.

I want to make it clear though that no one has so many sins that they can’t be beat. The two users that are winning as of right now came from the bottom of the chart! Menstrualpoetry & Nowsourcing just started voting, making comments, and doing some great rock, metal, punk style submissions like crazy. Anyone can still win it!

So give the headset away as a Christmas gift to a loved one, keep it for yourself, or smash it in a million pieces because it’s not a Bose. We don’t care! All we care is that you fight your way to the top of our Top Ten Users Chart, and let the best rock fan win! It can be hard rock, classic rock, metal, punk, industrial, glam, goth, grunge, or grindcore. No rap, rapcore, dance music, techno, hip hop, or country though. This has always been the case with this site and it always will be. Why? Because we are the only social news site that truly ROCKS!

When does the contest start? Days ago…were you not paying attention?

Top user gets a new computer!

November 4th, 2008 by Mark Carras

Asus eee PC

So activity here has been a little slow and all my “standing challenges” seem to have no effect. So now is the time to kick things up a notch. How about if we give away a brand spankin’ new computer? The hot new thing seems to be the super light netbooks. Asus Eee PC seems to be the most reputable. So we are giving away an Asus Eee PC this month to the top user that is not directly connected to the site. So this means that programmer DarkNemesis618, my wife VaporRub, and myself are automatically disqualified from winning. Everyone else however is free game. Now we want to make sure that everyone has a good and fair chance of winning. So we are giving you until December 1st at Midnight east coast time. This means the second the month changes, a screenshot will be taken to show the winner in a blog post that morning. Whoever is the top user (not connected to the site) gets the prize. Now some may say that isn’t fair since some are already almost to one thousand “sins”, but I say this is payback to those who have stuck with us the most.

Winner will be announced December 1st. Once we receive said winner’s address the Asus “EEE” PC will be sent out to them.

Even if I could win this contest it would still be possible to beat me and I have well over 2 thousand points. How could you beat that? Use all the tools one would use for any social news site. Use that RSS! Watch those live Twitter feeds. When Mashable posts something about the RIAA, post it! When Blabbermouth posts something about the new Nevermore DVD post it! The second Ars Technica posts something about iTunes, submit it! If Brave Words posts something about the new Guns And Roses cd, an RSS feed will help you post that news before anyone else. If Billboard posts something about the Velvet Revolver singer search you want to post that before anyone else can! What are the best places to watch for the heavy music news? I made a detailed blog post about that here if you want to take a look. My point is that it is possible.

Now for a challenge to you bloggers. Feel free to use any of this information to do your own article on this contest, this site, or an article on Social news and music. Then submit it to the site as “Industry News”. Any information we post in this blog can be used no problem. We just want the info out there. Plus, the more news sources the better this site will be.

So give the netbook away as a Christmas gift to a loved one, keep it for yourself, or smash it in a million pieces because it’s not a Mac.

If you are reading this it already has.

Force Mark to wear the costume of YOUR choice for Halloween!

October 23rd, 2008 by Mark Carras

So things have gone a little quiet around here since I cut off all my hair. So I am brainstorming to find a way to kick things back into gear. Sine this is your site too, I want o hear your ideas. What would make you more excited about being active here? What kind of campaigns would you like to see? What kind of contests would you like to see? We have a tiny pathetic budget but we will do our best. Seriously, give us some feedback. We are desperate for your feedback!

So here is the latest idea I have for the site. If someone can beat both me and DarkNemesis618 on the top ten users chart I will not only shave my sideburns live on Saturday Night Monkey, but I will also let that top user pick my costume for our Nov 1st episode of Saturday Night Monkey. Want to see me in a pink tutu? How about suit and tie? Maybe make me dress up like Harry Potter? Ok, I should really stop giving you sickos ideas. You get the idea. If you beat me and DarkNemesis618 on the HAH top ten users chart you get to pick my costume. Of course I need a deadline for this, so let’s say Oct 30th. Bring it on bitches!

Make Mark shave his sideburns too?

October 12th, 2008 by Mark Carras

Well, I have made this challenge before but this time I am adding this to our list of open ended challenges. This means that just like with the challenge to get my wife on Saturday Night Monkey, this challenge will not end until the challenge is met. I hope to add an open ended challenge like this every Sunday night. So stay tuned to this Blog!

So here is the details for this challenge. Beat both me and DarkNemesis618 on the top ten users chart and I will shave my sideburns live on the next episode of Saturday Night Monkey. That’s it! All it takes is one person to beat both me and Darknemesis618 on the top ten users chart and the sideburns are gone!

So the question is, does cGt2099 have what it takes? Will menstrualpoetry go on full attack? Will nowsourcing call in his legion again? Will MrBabyMan stop being such a slacker and even enter the charts (You know we love ya Andy)? Or will it be a user we didn’t see coming? Either way, I say bring it on bitches! My sideburns laugh at your weak attempts!

Photos of Mark Carras shaving his head for Locks of Love!

October 11th, 2008 by Mark Carras

So I made a challenge that if 1,000 stories made it to the front of this site before October 1st I would shave my head for LocksOfLove.org. Well, thanks to everyone for making that happen. I especially would like to thank NowSourcing.com/blog for giving the campaign a last minute surge that made sure we made our goal. Without Brian’s help we would not have made it. I would also like to thank the amazing crew at the Lacey WA Fantastic Sam’s. They not only let me stream the whole thing live with zero resistance, but seemed to be more excited than any sane group of hairstylists would have been. Their insanity made me feel at home. I have not been to a hairstylist since my age was in single digits, but I might start going to them because of their great attitude. Thanks ladies!

So we did stream the event live, but my Verizon EV_DO wireless internet USB connection could not seem to get a good connection inside the building for some reason. I know outside I could get an amazingly fast connection, so it was the building. So it ended up only giving what looked like 3 still shots for those watching it live. Not sure any of the audio came through at all. So we do not have any video. However, while streaming it live the Queen Of Cheese was there taking photos for us. So below are the before and after photos of the entire thing.

Before I show the photos can I ask a favor? I made a rather massive sacrifice for a very good cause. I would love to continue to do altruistic events like this through this site, but I can’t do it without some help. So please do what you can to help us spread the word about this site and we will do what we can to keep up connecting the site to positive causes. Deal?

Now please help spread the word on this site so we can continue to do good works through Rock And Roll!

You ready for a new challenge?

October 7th, 2008 by Mark Carras

So I am now one bald dude thanks to you people. I hope you are happy with yourselves! Seriously, LocksOfLove.org now has a good lengthy donation. They cut a 5 foot ponytail from each side of my head, so their minimum donation might be 10 inches but I gave them 10 feet. We will also be making a $1000 donation to go along with that. Thanks to everyone for helping us with this great cause. If we can keep activity up here, we hope to do many more campaigns that help our fellow man in just the same way. We can’t do it without you though! Some have said they want to see photos, so this will be my priority this weekend to get those posted here at the blog.

So on to the next challenge. This will be a standing challenge. This means that until you meet it, it doesn’t end. Each week I plan to add another ’standing challenge’. Many have said they want my wife Sherri (aka Vaporrub) to be on Saturday Night Monkey. DarkNemesis618 has added a nice little automated “Site Stats” to every page on the main section of the site. I figured I would tie both together. So how about if right before we go live with SNM I check that little site stats box. If it says we have had at least 300 (legit) front page stories The Queen Of Cheese herself will be part of our drunken little crew? So the gauntlet has been thrown. Are you all up to this challenge?

BREAKING: The Challenge Has Been Met

September 30th, 2008 by Keith Wagner

At 10:38am EST this morning, the 1,000th story became popular. What this means is that Mark Carras, who issued the Heavy as Hell Challenge to get 1,000 stories front paged by October 1st. If that was done, then Mark will shave his head and donate his hair to locks of love, as well as $1,000. Well like you can see, we have 1,002 quality popular stories so guess what, Mark will be cutting off all his hair.

Congratulations everyone. Before and after pictures will be posted as soon as they become available.

Also, keep submitting stories, just because the challenge has been met, doesn’t mean that this site is going anywhere. We want to see Heavy as Hell become a key destination for your social music news!
