So here it is December first and our biggest contest so far is done. Who are the winners? Well as you can see from my screenshot of our top ten list below, menstrualpoetry has won the Asus Eee laptop. The Plantronics GameCom 777 will be sent to nowsourcing. And of course the 3rd place prize goes to cGt2099. I will be in touch with all of you on where to send your prize.
Now if you are wondering about the people on that list that didn’t win you have’t been paying attention. I’ll fill you in anyways though. DarkNemesis618, VaporRub, and myself can’t win the contest because we are part of the site. It’s only fair.
So what’s next? Well for this site to survive we can’t have our traffic drop whenever we are not doing a contest. This site lives and dies by it’s users. With that being said, we are planing an even bigger contest right now. We started planing it before this contest even ended. It will be bigger and it will be even more awesome. At this point we plan to kick that off on Jan 1st. New year, so a new contest. Just like this contest was made to help you with your Christmas shopping, maybe this one can help with your Valentines Day shopping. It might take a little longer though if traffic drops too far during December. I say this not as a threat, but just what we have to do to keep things going at the rate we have.
You think contests are all we have in the plans? Not even close. There are many very sweet features that are being worked on right now by the infamous DarkNemesis618. I have been sworn to secrecy, but let me tell you they are sweeter than anything you have ever seen before. A few of them are things other social networks just can’t do. Well, I have made this challenge before but this time I am adding this to our list of open ended challenges. This means that just like with the challenge to get my wife on Saturday Night Monkey, this challenge will not end until the challenge is met. I hope to add an open ended challenge like this every Sunday night. So stay tuned to this Blog!
So here is the details for this challenge. Beat both me and DarkNemesis618 on the top ten users chart and I will shave my sideburns live on the next episode of Saturday Night Monkey. That’s it! All it takes is one person to beat both me and Darknemesis618 on the top ten users chart and the sideburns are gone!
So the question is, does cGt2099 have what it takes? Will menstrualpoetry go on full attack? Will nowsourcing call in his legion again? Will MrBabyMan stop being such a slacker and even enter the charts (You know we love ya Andy)? Or will it be a user we didn’t see coming? Either way, I say bring it on bitches! My sideburns laugh at your weak attempts!
So let me get this straight right up front. Nothing would make me more happy than to have a user beat the living crap out of me and DarkNemesis618 on the HAH top ten users chart. Please bump us down. All of you need to gang up and bump us both off the chart entirely. In my efforts to encourage you all to make it to the top of the chart, I am going to do my best to give away all my secrets. I hope to get DarkNemesis618 to do the same thing. You users totally need to take control of this place and make it what you want it to be. That is the whole point of the site.
So you do know about Google reader right? That is the most powerful tool when doing social media on any site. The other thing to know is that you should not just keep to music sites. There are many tech sites that do music related stories that would fit perfect in the “Industry News” section. CNN has music stories all the time. In fact whatever your favorite news sites are, I am pretty sure they have tons of musical stories. Don’t close you minds off to just the expected sources. What about a story about a music soundtrack that Trent Reznor did? What about another great band being on The Simpsons? So sometimes movie and tv news is also music news. Just like Tech news can be music news. What if some rock band plays for the Queen of England? World news can be music news too! Every news site and every news source can be a music news source that has great stories that should be posted at this site!
I also want to make it clear that this is NOT A METAL SITE! Notice the rock section? Notice the punk section? I want to see everything from Tom Petty to Cannibal Corpse. I want to see everything from Bob Dylan to Slayer. It would be better if we have everything from Rolling Stones to Six Feet Under. In the words of a legendary rock song, “I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now!”
Now the only other thing I can do is to give you the best music news sources I have on my Google reader currently. Steal them all and add your own, but please I beg you…beat me down on the charts like I was the new M.C. Hammer single!
So any second now the first ad campaign of the relaunch will begin. The artwork has already been sent and everything. A very humble thank you to Jason Chieng of Phunkn for doing such a great job on the artwork. Not only that but he did it for free because he thinks this is for a good cause too. So please flood him with paying work and tell him why!
