First off, band accounts are very different than user accounts. Nothing you can do with a user account can be done with a band account. Of course, nothing you can do with a band account can be done with a user account either. So why get a band account? Well, notice the chart at the side of most pages on this site? We automatically rank every band account. So pushing your band account pretty much gets you free advertising. You help us and we help you. It's automated.

How do we win this game:

When a user "fans" a band, their sin points are shared by that band. The band with the most points wins. However when a user fans another band those shared points go to the new band. A user can only be a fan of one band at a time. To keep the database from crashing, we also limit how fast a user can switch bands.

Creating your band account name:

Keep it simple. If your band name is "Fartknockers" just register as "Fartknockers". Do not try to be fancy. Your band account should pull up stories about your band. So if you register as "Fartknockers (Official)" it messes things up. The system will not look for "Fartknockers" It will look for stories about the band "Fartknockers (Official)". Since there is no band called "Fartknockers (official)" the search will never turn up stories on your band. Then your fans can't vote them up and send them to the front page for you. So just keep it to your band's name.

Can We Register a Band we are a Fan of:

We would rather you not, but to be honest we have better things to do than verify accounts. Maybe someday we can charge a small fee for verified accounts, but until then we will only remove a band account if we find out it's unofficial without putting any research into it.
